Your Question

Compostability Standards

What does it mean?

To be certified compostable in Australia, 90% degradation of material is required within six months. It is also a condition that degradation must be carried out by genuine microbial action (rather than structural degradation, like with regular plastics). The polymer resin that we use in our products has surpassed all these requirements easily, achieving biodegradation rates comparable with natural cellulose control material.

The European standard (EN 13432-2000) requires a level greater than 50% of volatile solids. Our BF-90 polymer is 99%, far in excess of the requirement. This indicates almost total potential degradation in a waste stream. Our polymer has achieved independent biodegradability certification in compliance with Australian, American and European standards.
